AI is not the enemy.
AI driven by humanity's most destructive impulses is.A manifesto has just been published. It is called The Technological Republic. Number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Written by the founder of Palantir — whose software is already embedded in the state apparatus of dozens of governments.It says: the question is not whether AI weapons will be built — it is who will build them. It says: the power of this century will be built on software. It says: our adversaries will not hesitate, so neither can we.This argument rests on two assumptions. Never defended. Never questioned. Simply stated as the starting point.First assumption: civilizational conflict is inevitable.Some cultures have produced wonders, others are regressive. Coexistence is naivety. We must dominate. This is not a conclusion drawn from history — it is the deadly bias that has, time and again, caused humanity's greatest catastrophes. And it is precisely this bias that Palantir's AI is built to amplify.Second assumption: the human being is reducible to data.The child, the soldier, the migrant, the patient — all dissolved into the same processing logic. Total population control becomes possible once you accept this reduction. It is a vision of staggering poverty. It does not need to be malicious to be lethal — it only needs to be poor.I propose something else.AI amplifies what humans bring to it. Fed by these two assumptions, it produces Palantir. The determining variable is not the code — it is the vision of the human being, and of the world, that precedes the code.I reject both assumptions.The human being is not reducible to data. He chooses in ignorance, feels dissonance, loves what is mortal, creates from nothing. The child who pours water from one vessel to another for thirty minutes straight is not a deficit to be corrected — he is the guardian of what makes humanity irreplaceable.Conflict is not inevitable. What is inevitable is the choice: to remain sovereign — as human beings, as civilizations — or to surrender our destiny to machines fed by our worst fears.Will this environment be shaped to allow human beings to express their full potential — or to "protect them from themselves"?AI reveals our vision of the human being.
The question has never been technological.

AI Projects

Montessori-minded systems

I contribute to a small number of AI projects on one condition: that the technology supports human freedom rather than replaces it.
The rest of my work asks what must remain human as systems accelerate. These projects are where that question stops being an essay and becomes an engineering constraint.A tool is never neutralWhat machines now do well: recall, sort, correlate, produce a plausible answer, is much of what schooling has long tried to develop in the child.
What they will not do is judge: decide what matters, when to act, when to wait, what is true rather than merely likely. Discernment is not knowledge. It is not acquired by being told. It is built by exercise, the way a child learns to walk by being allowed to try and try again.
Which means a tool placed between a person and the world either exercises that faculty or spares them the effort. There is no third option.Most educational AI is being built to spare the effort. These projects are built the other way.

Lyri - Curious, not hookedA fully voice-based conversation partner for children from the age of eight. No screen. No notifications. No camera, no listening standby. The object sits on a bedside table, shows the time, and a single button switches it into conversation.
Lyri does not give answers. It asks questions, and the child finds them.The exchanges are built on Montessori pedagogy and on what neuroscience has established about how children develop. Co-founded with Alain Hui Bon Hoa. Currently in testing with pioneer families in Europe.The clearest description of what it does came from a nine-year-old tester:
"Lyri is really good, because I'm the one thinking. It doesn't give the answers straight away. I give myself the answers."

MOI - Montessori Observation IntelligenceA research initiative, not a product.
Observation is the scientific foundation of Montessori education, but in practice it is squeezed: documentation consumes the time it needs, and classroom organisation rarely protects a period in which an educator may sit and act on nothing.MOI asks whether AI can take charge of the factual layer of observation (what was taken, for how long, how many times) so that a trained adult can spend her attention on what no machine will ever see.
Three layers, deliberately separated: the machine bears witness, the machine preserves, the human interprets. The third is not automatable, and the system is designed so that it cannot creep into the first two.The computer-vision technology is not mature enough for deployment. That is precisely why this is a research question before it is a product question. A pilot study is being prepared with a technology partner and an academic institution.

No system I contribute to will automate an educational decision.
No system I contribute to will reduce a person to their data.These are constraints, not features. They cost capabilities the market rewards. That is what makes them worth writing down: what is left implicit erodes.AI reveals our vision of the human being. The question has never been technological. It has always been: what kind of human do we want to be?These projects are one attempt at an answer. Not in an essay, but in something that has to be built, shipped, and used by real families.

I am an international consultant, author, and educational innovation strategist working at the intersection of AI, digital learning ecosystems, and human-centered education.
